Who is JMJ

JMJ (Society of Jesus, Mary and Joseph) was founded in Holland in 1822. The Congregation gradually extended its field of activity to Indonesia, Australia and Africa and in 1904, seven JMJ Dutch Sisters established the Order in India. The local Congregation grew in strength with Indian Sisters joining JMJ and they opened centers across the country in diverse fields such as education, healthcare, social service, technical schools, care of the blind, the aged and physically challenged. The Sisters also conduct programs for self-help and the empowerment of women.

Today JMJ has three provinces in India comprising 750 Sisters based in 79 communities serving 116 institutions. The Goa Chapter falls under the Bangalore Province having 250 Sisters. JMJ Hospital at Alto Porvorim, Bardez, Goa, is run by seven Sisters who include an Accountant, a Pharmacist and three nursing Sisters and the Administrator herself is a qualified cardiac nurse.

The Hospital is built on 3600 square meters of land, has 25 beds and provides services in general and orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, general medicine, ophthalmology and pathology. It has a staff of 30 with 20 doctors on its panel.

The Sisters exude an atmosphere of quiet competence and a healing touch. They are noted for their commitment, dedication and maintaining continuity of operation.
